Find Stonewall County Civil Dockets

Start with the right court if you need a Stonewall County civil docket. The clerk's office holds the record, but civil matters can sit in district, county, or justice court, so knowing which one saves time. A local index may show a cause number and the events in the case, and the statewide system may add details where records are linked. Some papers exist only at the clerk's counter. With these routes you can follow your own case, check a setting, or request a public filing. Searching Stonewall County civil court dockets works best when you treat an index entry as a starting point rather than the whole case file.

Stonewall County Civil Court Routes

Civil cases in Stonewall County can sit in three different courts. District civil and family matters belong to the 39th Judicial District Court. That court also serves Haskell, Kent, and Throckmorton counties. Even so, a Stonewall County file stays local. The constitutional County Court handles county civil and probate work. Small claims and forcible entry and detainer cases go to the countywide Justice of the Peace. Those cases fall within that court's statutory reach.

Where does a small claim belong? Texas Government Code Chapter 27 caps Justice Court civil jurisdiction at $20,000, excluding interest. Venue and case type still decide the right court, so the dollar limit alone is not the answer.

What a Civil Docket Shows

Think of a Stonewall County civil docket as a running log, not one decision. The local LGS system sorts entries by office and record type. Its other columns are search criteria, More Information, and Images. The statewide re:SearchTX model tracks location, category, and type. It also lists filed date, judge, status, parties, and events. Both layers connect to the same courthouse. Yet their labels and coverage do not always line up.

Cause numberThe court’s unique search key.
Case styleThe formal title identifying the parties or estate.
Filed dateThe date the clerk received the recorded filing.
EventsDated petitions, service entries, motions, settings, orders, or judgment events.
Document statusWhether an image is available, priced, restricted, or absent.
Case statusAn active, closed, or other label read with the latest order.

One caution about docket entries. An entry lists what was filed, not whether it is true. For what the court actually held, read the order or judgment itself.

Stonewall Civil Index and re:SearchTX

The local and statewide systems do different jobs. LGS serves as Stonewall County's public index and image system. Guest access shows index data plus a preview. Buying available images requires a registered account. Per the county FAQ, searching is free, some court-case images are allotted before a subscription threshold, each purchase carries a $0.30 transaction fee, and certain images stay off the public side.

re:SearchTX works as a statewide research and document layer. Its search fields cover case number, party, attorney, location, category, type, and date where records are integrated. State reporting says clerk integration keeps expanding, which makes it a strong second check but not proof that every Stonewall County civil docket is complete there. eFileTexas takes filings. It is not a substitute for the public docket.

Three distinct results: an index confirms an entry, an image shows an available document, and a certified copy carries the clerk’s certification.

Stonewall County Civil Case Types

Texas filing standards sort civil cases into broad groups. On a Stonewall County docket, the labels can read contract, injury or damage, other civil, real property, or matters related to a criminal case. These are filing categories only. None of them tells you how common a subtype is locally.

  • Debt, contract, and agreement disputes
  • Injury or damage claims
  • Real-property cases, including foreclosure or title disputes
  • Family proceedings within district jurisdiction
  • Small claims and eviction matters in Justice Court
  • Probate matters through the constitutional County Court

Property researchers need one distinction. A deed or lien lives in the recording system, not the civil court docket. A lawsuit over that same land gets its own cause number, event history, and judgment.

Stonewall Justice Court Civil Work

For civil matters outside the district courtroom, Stonewall County runs a countywide Justice Court. The OCA directory lists Darla Pearson as Justice of the Peace. Contact details are current September 3, 2026. The office is P.O. Box 389, Aspermont, Texas 79502, phone (940) 989-2213, and email darla.pearson@stonewallcountytx.org. Call that office before you assume anything. The clerk there can tell you whether a Stonewall County Justice Court civil docket sits in LGS. The clerk can also explain how to request a record that is not online.

Entries in a Justice Court civil docket can show a petition, service, an answer, or a hearing setting. Other possibilities are a continuance, a judgment, or a disposition. Evictions get special treatment. Some records call a filing a forcible entry and detainer. That filing moves through its own process. So do not assume a county or district docket search will pick up this court's cases.

One more caution. The state's court directory shifts as courts send in updates. Confirm the office holder and phone line rather than trusting a saved copy.

Stonewall Civil Docket Settings

A setting is any event the court has scheduled. Trials are only one kind. On a Stonewall County civil docket, the same word may label a status conference, motion hearing, docket call, pretrial event, or trial setting. A continuance means a postponement. A reset simply moves the proceeding to a new date, and neither term means the case was dismissed.

The county publishes no live hearing calendar. So check the latest event against the court's own notice, then call the clerk or your lawyer before relying on any date. The Stonewall County court calendar process page explains why a public-notice calendar and an old settings order are not live case calendars.

Ask where the event will be held. Ask too whether it is in person or remote, and whether a later order replaced it. One wrinkle: a multi-county district can issue administrative material from Haskell while a Stonewall County case stays filed locally.

Stonewall Civil Docket Terms

Short labels hide big differences. These entries help you read a Stonewall County civil docket without mistaking one event line for the whole court record.

Motion
A request asking the judge to act.
Order
The judge’s written or recorded direction.
Default judgment
A judgment that may follow a failure to respond or appear.
Nonsuit
A plaintiff’s voluntary dismissal, subject to the order.
DWOP
Dismissed for want of prosecution.
Disposition
The recorded outcome or current resolution status.

Still stuck on a code? Hand the clerk the cause number and the event date instead of guessing what the entry means.

Public Access to Civil Dockets

Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a starts from openness. Court records are presumed public. But sealing follows a court-order process that requires specific findings. Family, probate, guardianship, mental-health, juvenile, and protective-order files may hold restricted or redacted material. So an index row does not guarantee access to every image.

Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 covers many non-adjudicative judicial records. Rule 12 is not the Texas Public Information Act. That statute reaches the executive branch instead. Put the court, cause number, document, and date range in writing. Send the request to the proper custodian. Leave out Social Security numbers, full birth dates, account data, and any private details the clerk does not need.

Stonewall Civil Appeals Leave County

An appeal opens a second docket. It carries a new cause number. The Eleventh Court of Appeals serves Stonewall County and hears intermediate civil appeals within its jurisdiction. Its docket can list the notice of appeal, briefs, orders, opinion, and mandate.

Search there when a notice shows review was sought. The trial file still lives with the local clerk. Above it all sits the Supreme Court of Texas, the state's highest civil court. Not every case is appealed. An appeal entry alone does not reveal the result.

The state's court-system overview maps the hierarchy, which keeps a missing appellate event from being mistaken for a gap in the local Stonewall County docket.
